BACKGROUND
We conducted study regarding the laparoscopic cholecystectomy and its associated complications both preoperatively and postoperatively and the risk factors responsible for conversion of laparoscopic cholecystectomy to open cholecystectomy. We conducted the study in 100 cases in our institution.
The aim of the study is to study the complications related to laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
ï?· Intraoperative and postoperative complications related to laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
ï?· Risk factors for conversion of laparoscopic cholecystectomy to open cholecystectomy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
1. Patients attending to Government General Hospital, Guntur, with complaining of pain at right hypochondriac region with ultrasound abdomen showing cholelithiasis.
2. Prospective study conducted during August 2014 to October 2016.
RESULTS
Conversion rate of 6%, complication rate of 37%, biliary injury rate of 1%, bowel injury rate of 0%, vascular injury rate (cystic artery) 1% and intraop detection of complications were found in our study.
CONCLUSION
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is associated with low morbidity even without intraoperative cholangiography. Careful selection of patients using critical view of safety and meticulous dissection of Calot’s triangle and timely conversion to open procedure avoids major complications.
