A biofilm is any group of micro-organisms such as bacteria, fungi, algae etc., in which cells stick to each other on a surface, which are embedded within a self-produced matrix of extracellular polymeric substance (EPS). This polymeric conglomerate is generally composed of extracellular DNA, proteins and polysaccharides.
